Explosion Hits Near Spanish Embassy In Kabul

151211153715_kabul_blast_640x360_KABUL: (MEP) At least seven people were injured after a powerful explosion rocked Kabul city on Friday close to the Embassy of Spain.

The incident occurred when a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives in Sherpoor area of Kabul at about 5:45 pm local time.

Earlier reports suggest the first explosion took place near the Spanish Embassy and the second one occurred near the residence of First Vice-President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum.

Clashes between Afghan security forces and the assailants continued for about 2 hours in the area.

Senior deputy interior minister for security Gen. Ayub Salangi confirmed earlier that three suicide bombers were involved in the disaster which then all two of them were shot dead by the Afghan security forces and the third was wounded.

He said clearing operations are underway. 

Officials said earlier that insurgents had entered a building close to the embassy and were fighting security forces.

Those injured in the blast were shifted to the hospitals however, no reports regarding their health conditions were released so far.

Zabiullah Mujahid, Spokesman for Taliban group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
