Dr. Zalmai Rasoul registered for 2014 Afghanistan presidential votes

KABUL: (MEP) – Previous Afghan foreign affairs minister, Dr. Zalmai Rasoul on Sunday formally filed nomination for the future presidential elections.

Dr. Zalmai Rasoul appeared in the independent election commission of Afghanistan along with his first vice-president Ahmad Zia Massoud and second vice-president Habiba Surabi, Khaama reported.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai accepted the resignation of Dr. Zalmai Rasoul on Saturday, the presidential palace administration announced a following a statement late Saturday.

Dr. Zalmai Rasoul is the first member of the Afghan cabinet to formally file nomination for 2014 presidential elections. Afghan mines and trade & commerce ministers, Wahidullah Shahrani and Anwar-ul-haq Ahadi have also resigned from their positions to run in the upcoming presidential elections.

Trade and commerce ministry spokesman, Wahidullah Ghazi confirmed that Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi has resigned as trade and commerce minister and will formally file nomination for 2014 presidential elections.

Mr. Ghazi further added that Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi has named former member of the Afghan high peace council, Mohammad Ismail Qasimyar and brother of Sebghatullah Mojadidi, Hashmatullah Mojadidi as his vice-president.

The registration process for presidential candidates started on 16 September, and the enrollment process will finish at 4pm on Sunday.
