KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 30 people were killed and 11 others wounded when a bus leaped 400 meters into a ravine in southern Brazil, officials say.

Colonel Nelson Coelho said that the passenger bus was carrying about 50 people when it fell down a cliff near the city of Joinville in Santa Catarina state on Saturday night.

“There are people out there, on the hill, in the bus, trapped in the wreckage. But the chance of finding someone alive are pretty slim,” Mr. Nelson added.

The cause behind the accident is unknown so far but the police officials have launched an investigation regarding the deadly crashing.

The rescued were taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver is supposed to have lost control of the vehicle on a bend.

According to official statistics, nearly 43,000 Brazilians are annually killed in car crashes.
