Death toll reaches to 30 in London tower fire: police

At least 30 people were confirmed dead by the Metropolitan Police as a result of the blaze that destroyed a 24-storey building in west London on Wednesday morning.

The Queen and Prince William have today visited a rest centre, with her Majesty at one point looking close to tears as she spoke to people affected by the blaze.

More than 70 people remain unaccounted for since the blaze, which police fear was so devastating that some victims might never be identified.

Commander Stuart Cundy of the Metropolitan Police said he hoped the number of dead does not reach ‘triple figures’

The latest figures from NHS England show that 24 people who were injured in the fire are still being treated in hospitals across London, of whom 12 remain in a critical care

London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner Richard Mills confirmed fire service teams would continue the search for the victims on the scene.

He said there are no fires still burning inside the building at this point.

It has proven difficult to confirm how many people are missing, but the Met has put together a special team for concerned families to contact.
