Deadly Explosion in Nigeria Market Kills 32, Injures 80

nigeria-explosion-062514KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 32 people have lost their lives and about 80 others are wounded after an explosion in the Nigerian city of Yola, according to various reports.

The blast went off at a vegetable market near a main road on Tuesday night.

“Thirty-two people were killed and 80 have been injured,” Reuters quoted a Red Cross official as saying, another official from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Sa’ad Bello, later confirmed the same numbers of casualties.

No one claimed responsibility, however such incidents are usually blamed on Boko Haram, the group that has killed thousands as it attempts to promote Islamic law in Nigeria.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari visited Yola on Saturday, declaring that the Islamist militant movement Boko Haram was close to defeat.

Yola has twice been hit by deadly bomb attacks this year.
