Daily Cost of the War in Afghanistan is over $24 Million

n00072056-bKABUL: (Middle East Press) Afghanistan suffered a financial loss of over $9 billion last year only due to conflict and insurgency amid persistent violence with the rampant insurgency activities by the anti-government armed militant groups.

According to a new research report, the financial loss which amounts to $9 billion and 91 million is almost 13 per cent higher the national budget of the country and is equivalent to almost 44 percent of the net income of Afghanistan.

The report by was released by Equality for Peace and Democracy (EPD) organization on Monday which is based on research conducted during the past year with the help of governmental organizations in seven different provinces and by interviewing by one hundred people.

The report further added that daily loss as a result of conflict and insurgency has been estimated at $24 million.

Deputy Director of Equality for Peace and Democracy, Edrees Omarzad, said Afghanistan could achieve more developments if there were war or violence in the country.

According to the report, the financial losses have been incurred mainly due to financial assistance to war victims and other humanitarian assistance including expenses on public health, disabled individuals, education and immigration.

The report has been prepared with the financial support of the American Peace Institute with the officials of the institute insisting on better governance and enforcement of law in a bid to prevent war and insurgency.

The officials also added that the ongoing violence in the country has regional roots as well as internal roots since war and insurgency have been enforced on Afghanistan.
