Contradictory Statements on Detention of 100 Soldiers in Badghis

Although members of Badghis Provincial Council and popular sources report capture of 100 Border Police Forces in Balamarghab district but, local officials do not endorse these statements.

Abdul Aziz Beig, a member of the Badghis Provincial Council, said in a conversation to the Middle East Press that a total of 150 Border Police Forces were arrested in the Murichaq area of Balamrghab district, 100 of them were captured by Taliban and 50 others were jammed in the Turkmenistan border barbed wire.

He added that more Security Forces have now been placed in the district center and efforts are being made to evict troops from the Taliban siege.

Beig, also declared that the Taliban has occupied the districts abs the center of the province and this group is using the human shield to prevent the advancement of Security Forces` operations.

But local officials reject this statement.

A spokesman for Badghis Governor Jamshid Shahabi, denying reports on detention of Border Forces, said; a number of the Forces still present Turkmenistan border.

Shahabi added that Commando Forces have arrived in Balamarghab district and Commander of Army Camp 3 and Police Commander of the province have also been placed to the district.

According to him, officials are trying to save the Border Forces through Turkmenistan in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry.

According to Badghis Governor’s spokesman, a number of 100 Border Forces were taken to their homes with intercession of local elders; he did not add that whether they were captured or not?

Meanwhile, the armed Taliban invasively attacked on Balamarghab district since 10 days ago and got the control of many villages in the district.

Armed Taliban have also confirmed the detention of a number of Security Forces in the Balamarghab district.
