KABUL: (Middle East Press) Clashes between security forces and demonstrators protesting against the killing of a pro-independence fighter in the Indian-administered Kashmir has left 15 people wounded.

On Wednesday, hundreds of demonstrators poured on the streets in Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar to denounce the shooting death of the man by Indian soldiers.

Violence erupted after protesters began to throw rocks at police forces, who attacked the protesters shortly afterward, hurling tear gas containers at the demonstrators and firing live bullets into the air to disperse the crowd.

A police official said at least 15 people were injured in the clashes, including nine policemen and a district administrator.

The development comes a day after Indian soldiers cordoned off the village of Heff, located around 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Srinagar, engaging in a battle with pro-independence forces. A pro-independence fighter was killed in the process while three government troops sustained injuries.
