Chinese Peacekeeper Killed, 4 Injured In Mali Attack
MEP: A Chinese peacekeeper was killed and four civilians working for the UN’s Mali mission wounded on Wednesday in a mortar attack, the UN and China’s foreign ministry said.
Spokeswoman Hua Chunying described the attack as “an act of terrorism and a serious crime that cannot be tolerated.”
The last month alone has seen three attacks on members of the mission, known as MINUSMA, fuelling concern over its future with 65 killed in under three years.
Meanwhile, the UN said that “two security guards and an international expert” with a de-mining unit were also killed in a separate attack in the city.
Al-Qaeda’s North African affiliate AQIM claimed responsibility for attack, the US monitoring SITE said.
