Car Bomb Hits Shia Pilgrims In Iraq Killing 23

8353059KABUL: (MEP) At least 23 people were killed and 42 others sustained injuries in a deadly explosion in a residential neighborhood in the capital, Baghdad on Saturday morning.

The blast occurred after a car bomb attack targeted a group of Shia Muslim pilgrims in southeastern commercial neighborhood of Nahrawan, local and security officials said.

The pilgrims were reportedly heading to Baghdad’s northern neighborhood of Kadhimiya to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the seventh Shia Imam Musa ibn Jafar al-Kazim (PBUH).

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, however such incidents often claimed by Islamic State (IS or Daesh) terrorist group.

Last year’s pilgrimage was also marred by attacks against worshippers. And over the past month more than 40 civilians have been killed in bombings in Baghdad.

Baghdad has been hit by a wave of suicide attacks, with over 30 people dying in just over the space of a week.
