Car Bomb Blast Leaves 19 Injured Near Kabul Airport

KABUL: (MEP) At least 19 people have been injured after a suicide car bomber on Monday evening detonated his explosives near the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, officials said Tuesday.

The attack occurred at around 6:30 pm, Mohammad Ismail Kawosi, an official from the Ministry of Public Health said.

Three children, four women and 12 men were among the dead, according to Kawosi.

However, some media outlets put the number of casualties from 20 to 30.

Despite eyewitness reports that it was a truck bomb, Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said Monday night it had been a car bomb.

This is the second incident involving suicide car bomb attack near Hamid Karzai International Airport today. In the earlier explosion that took place around 11am on Monday, only the suicide bomber was killed and no casualties were incurred to the civilians or security personnel.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the two attacks.
