Vietnamese-born Minh Quang Pham jailed for 40 years over plotting attacks

MEP: A UK citizen has been jailed for 40 years in the United States for plotting a “horrific” bombing at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Minh Quang Pham, 33, was sentenced in New York for supporting the terror group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in 2011.

Prosecutors said he was directed by al Qaeda to detonate a bomb in Heathrow’s arrivals area.

However, he denied that he had ever intended to carry out his plot.

Pham, a former Vietnamese national who had lived in London, was first arrested in the UK in June 2012 and was extradited to the US in February 2015.

In January, he pleaded guilty to one count of providing material support to the AQAP, one count of conspiring to receive military training from the group and one count of possessing and using a machine gun in furtherance of crimes of violence.
