Britain Supports Afghan Peace Efforts

2273BD72-ACD4-45A4-AB73-DDE9CAF7C11C_mw1024_s_nKABUL: (MEP) British Foreign Secretary announced his country’s support and cooperation from the activities of peace to Afghan leadership and ownership.

Hekmat Khalil Karzai, deputy head of the Foreign Ministry on Monday met and held talks with Great Britain’s Foreign Minister Philip Hammond, a statement by Afghan Foreign Ministry said.

During the meeting, Karzai discussed issues about the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) talks and roadmap peace as well as expressing [hope] that these efforts by the international community, particularly countries in the region could lead to lasting peace and stability in the country, according to the statement.

Karzai also underlined the preparations for Brussels and Warsaw conferences adding that the government of Afghanistan presented a report on the achievements of its previous commitments in the areas of good governance, human rights and the fight against corruption, seeking to attract new obligations for continued international assistance and cooperation in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Hammond, referring to the peace efforts of the Afghan government, stressed that his country supports the Afghan leadership and ownership of the process.

He pointed to the importance of the Brussels and Warsaw conference and added that the United Kingdom has always been committed to support and cooperate with Afghanistan and will be active in the upcoming conferences.
