KABUL: (Middle East Press) One dead and three wounded following a blast hit the offices of cell phone companies and a restaurant in the Egyptian capital Cairo, police said.

Spokesman for interior ministry told reporters that the incident took place outside two offices of British firm Vodafone and a branch of United Arab Emirates-owned Etisalat on Thursday.

The branches were closed at the time of the explosions.

Another blast occurred outside a pizzeria, wounded two restaurant staff, General Hany Abdel Latif said.

The motive behind the bombings is not clear so far but Abdel Latif said authorities had been on the alert for attacks in the run up to parliamentary elections next month.

Fighters have set off dozens of bombs in the capital since the army overthrew Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 and cracked down on his supporters, killing hundreds of protesters in street clashes.
