Bomb Attack Targets Shia Area In Baghdad, Killing 11

Mideast IraqMEP: A suicide bomber has detonated an explosive vest near a security checkpoint in northwest Baghdad killing at least 11 people and scores of others wounded.

The blast on Sunday occurred in Kadhimiyah, a Shia district of Baghdad, a police officer told the Associated Press news agency.

Medical sources in Kadhimiya hospital, where the victims of the bombing were taken, said the death toll could rise as some of the injured are in a serious condition, Reuters reported.

The Takfiri Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, a statement released by Amaq news agency.

Baghdad has seen a dramatic rise in such terror attacks over the past weeks. Most of the assaults were claimed by Daesh terrorists, who mainly target security forces and public places in Shia-populated areas of the capital.
