Australia Helps $300mn to Afghanistan Civilian Projects

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Australia has helped an additional aid of $300 million to Afghanistan on Monday which would be consumed over civilian projects within the next two years.

The latest pledge was made during Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop’s visit to Kabul.

Speaking during a press conference with CEO Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Bishop said the assets would be spent on private sector with an aim to enhance economic opportunities in the country.

She said the government of Australia spent around $1 billion in civilian sector in the past.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah thanked the government of Australia for supporting Afghanistan in different sectors.

He stated the government of Afghanistan is keen to further boost ties with Australia in various sectors in the future.

Australia was also one of the main contributor to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan.

Almost 1,600 Australian soldiers were serving under the NATO-led ISAF mission who were mainly stationed in central Uruzgan province of Afghanistan.
