    • Australia conducts first airstrikesKABUL: (Middle East Press) The Australian government has announced and confirmed it has conducted its first air strikes against the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) inside Syria, the US announced on Tuesday.

    A statement by the US was issued states that three air strikes were made on Monday, destroying an ISIL armored personnel carrier and a crude oil collection point.

    Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott last week confirmed the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) would extend its action from Iraq into Syria at the request of the US, as he also announced that Australia would accept 12,000 Syrian refugees from persecuted minorities.

    The Federal Government announced last week that Australia would expand its air strikes from Iraq into Syria.
