Assailant Shot Dead After Attacking German Cinema
MEP: An unidentified man was shot and killed by German police after opening fire at a cinema complex in Viernheim’s Hesse region near Frankfurt in western Germany, local media reported.
The gunman was said to have taken hostages on Thursday, all of whom have escaped uninjured.
No one was injured, German authorities said, and confirmed that the attacker was killed during the police operation. However, an early report from German public TV said 25 people were injured in the incident. But it’s not clear if any of the injured were shot, or were hurt in other ways.

Peter Beuth, the interior minister of Hesse state, was quoted by Deutsche Welle as saying it was unclear if the gunman’s weapon was real.
German news reports say the injuries to those inside the Kinopolis movie theater may have come from tear gas used by the gunman.
The cinema is part of a major shopping center, home to more than 100 businesses. The Rhein Neckar Zentrum Vienheim shopping complex hosts 20,000 visitors daily, according to its website.
