KABUL: (MEP) – The Afghanistan national cricket team on Saturday defeated its arch rival Nepal by 3 runs, Asian Cricket Council emerging teams Cup in Singapore, khaama reported.
Nepal won the toss and elected to field first against Afghanistan at Padang cricket ground. The Afghanistan batsmen were all out after 169 runs, with Asghar Stanikzao top scored 33 runs for Afghanistan. Likewise, opener Nawroz Mangal scored 31 runs whereas Gulbadin Naib made unbeaten 30 runs.
However, a brilliant bowling performance by Afghan bowlers helped Afghanistan to restrict Nepal to 157 for nine in 50 overs in the opening match. Afghanistan was declared winner via Duckworth–Lewis (D/L) method.
Afghan bowlers Hamid Hassan and Mohammad Nabi took two wickets each, while Nawroz Mangal managed to take only one wicket.
Afghanistan national cricket team has played five one day internationals (ODIs) against Nepal since it began its first international participation in cricket.
The Afghan team has won four matches against Nepal, and has lost only one match. Afghanistan is on the verge of qualifying for the 50-over World Cup, and has already played the World T20 Cup twice, in 2010 and 2012.
