Afghanistan Release Another 98 Taliban Prisoners

KABUL (MEP) – Afghan National Security Council says a total of 98 more Taliban prisoners have been released as part of efforts to secure peace and tackle the coronavirus.

ANSC spokesman, Jawid Faisal today Sunday, May 3, in a post on twitter wrote that they were released on Saturday.

The prisoners had been released under the orders of President Ghani and according to their age, health status and the length of their remaining imprisonment, Faisal added.

According to the National Security Council, more than 550 Taliban prisoners have been released by the government earlier, bringing the total to 648.

The Taliban have also announced that the group has released 112 Afghan government prisoners.

The prisoner exchange by the government and the Taliban has been cited as a precondition for the start of intra-Afghan talks, according to a US-Taliban peace agreement signed in Doha.
