Afghanistan Declares 24 July ‘Public Mourning’ After Kabul Attacks

afghanistan_flag_120415-660x330MEP: The Afghan Republic government has announced 24 July 2016 (Sunday) public mourning day and the country’s tricolor flag will be raised at half-mast.

Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kabul Garrison Command also issued a statement banned holding rallies and protests for ten days.

The Ministry says the government in the light of the constitution, international conventions and laws of the country of the rights and freedoms of the people of Afghanistan supports and is dutiable for the maintenance of these freedoms.

The statement by the Ministry said that the Afghan government on Saturday used all amenities and seriousness to secure the protesters. But the enemies of Afghanistan benefited from the smallest gaps carried out the most fatal criminal and terrorist acts that have led to a tragic incident on Saturday that as a result, more than 80 people were killed and 231 others wounded.

“Leader of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as a responsible government before the law and are committed to protect the rights of citizens, also wish condolences to the families of martyrs and wounded in incident,” the statement added.

The deadly blast in Deh Mazang area of Kabul city occurred when thousands of protesters had gathered to march against government’s planned routing of the 500kV power line project.
