Afghan, Tajik Presidents Discuss Wide-Range Topics

Ghani in TajikistanMEP: Following a visit to Tajikistan, President Ashraf Ghani emphasized on trilateral cross-border cooperation on Afghanistan, Tajikistan and China with his Tajik counterpart as well as calling for further expansion of the cooperation.

President Ghani attended a press conference on Tuesday afternoon with Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan.

The two sides stressed the need to fight against terrorism and cross-border relations between the two nations during the meeting.

“Cross-border cooperation between Afghanistan and Tajikistan and the actions that are supposed to include China, to make it tri, is a credible step and we seek to develop this cooperation as a whole.” Ghani pointed.

Mr Ghani said that Afghanistan and Tajikistan have common history, culture and language and this common interests led to great interest and deep culture that was interrupted for a while, after Tajikistan’s independence, to be restored.

He noted of ‘full support’ to the CASA-1000 project and the difficulties that were faced with the project were solved by Afghanistan.

“CASA is not only the project but a symbol, a sign of our determination which had separated Asia, has re-connected it.” The President added.

Meanwhile, Ghani referred to terrorism and said “terrorism neither recognizes nation, religion nor border. It is a common threat and we in Afghanistan are in the frontline of the fight against terrorism.”

For his part, Mr Rahmon said that they will strive hard to make the border between the country as a border of stability, friendship and cooperation.

He also emphasized the need to fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
