Afghan refugee nominate for European Parliament elections

For the first time, a citizen of Afghanistan has nominated for membership in the European Parliament after 18 years in Greece.

Younis Mohammadi, an Afghan citizen, has begun campaigning for membership in the European Parliament, Middle East Press reported.

This is the first time that an Afghan citizen and asylum seeker has registered and started campaigning for membership in the European Parliament.

Younis Mohammadi says that he is from Mazar-e Sharif city, Balkh province, which turned Greece 18 years ago after fleeing from the Taliban prison, and created the Greek Refugee Association.

He said on his Facebook page that he has participated in social activities since 2004 and after his refugee acceptance, and from the very beginning he was seeking political programs.

The European Parliament elections will begin on Thursday this week, and citizens from the 28 member countries of the Union will vote in this poll.
