Afghan police seize 17 suicide vests, 200 IEDs in Uruzgan

KABUL: (MEP) – The Afghan national police forces arrested a suspected terrorist along with 17 suicide vests in southern Uruzgan province of Afghanistan on Wednesday, the interior ministry officials said.

Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the interior ministry of Afghanistan called the arrest and seizure of the suicide vests, the biggest arrest by Afghan police in the past years.

Mr. Sediqi further added that the suicide vests were brought in southern Uruzgan province of Afghanistan from outside the country.

He said the militants were looking to carry out coordinated attacks in Uruzgan and other provinces of Afghanistan, by using the suicide vests.

Sediqi also added that Afghan police forces seized around 200 homemade improvised explosive devices from the detained insurgent, khaama press reported.

According to Sediqi, the concerned security institutions have launched an investigation in this regard and the detained insurgent is custody for further investigation.

Uruzgan is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan, where Taliban militants and insurgents from the other terrorist groups are operating in a number of its districts, and frequently carry out attacks against the Afghan security forces and government officials.
