Bangladesh Hangs 26 Over Narayanganj Abductions, Murders

MEP: A Bangladesh court sentenced 26 people to death on Monday after convicting them of murdering seven people who were abducted outside a cricket stadium in April 2014.

Among those to be hanged over are three senior officers from elite security forces.

The bodies of the victims were found floating in a river three days after witnesses reported seeing them being bundled into an unmarked van outside the stadium in the central city of Narayanganj.

Judge Syed Enayet Hossain ordered 26 of them to hang after the year-long trial in Narayanganj while the other nine were handed prison sentences ranging from seven to 17 years.

Bangladesh, India and Indonesia all resumed executions in 2015, according to UK-based rights group Amnesty International.
