KABUL: (MEP) A newly married woman was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Kohistanat district of Sar-e-Pul province, according to officials.
Head of the Directorate of Women Affairs of Sar-e-Pul province, Nasima Arezo said Akhtar Bibi was mysteriously killed in front of her house on Wednesday night.
The 40 year old, Akhtar Bibi had been imprisoned on adultery charges for one year. After her release from jail, she married a relative and continued ordinary life in her village.
Governor of the province has confirmed the incident. But, he did not add more information regarding the killing.
Nasima Arezo meanwhile urged government to arrest the perpetrators while denouncing the crime.
Sar-e-Pul province is one the restive province in the country where several districts and areas are being controlled by militants.
