KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 5,000 people evacuated their homes due to huge flooding in the Central South of America’s northern Bolivia after the river Acre burst its banks.

Heavy rains, which often happen in Bolivia’s Amazon regions from January to March, caused the flow of Acre River to reach a record of 15.5 meters high and forced the evacuation of residents in Cobija, the capital of the northern department of Pando, which is divided into five provinces.

Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera said that the government would help to displace the residents of the neighborhoods located closest to the river.

There has been no report on the deaths or injuries by the floods so far.

Flooding happens regularly in the region, but recent rains have been significantly heavy.
