32 Water Supply Networks to Be Constructed in 9 Provinces

KABUL: (MEP) – Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock on Wednesday said that 32 water supply networks in 9 provinces are to be constructed and reconstructed.

Officials of the Ministry have signed the agreement with private companies and stated that the total value of this project totals two hundred and fourteen million Afghanis. The budget for this project comes from the development budget of this Ministry, and is to be paid from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund.

The officials said that this project will be implemented within “On-Farm Water Management Program” and with implementation of these projects the first phase of the program will be implemented.

Around seventy five irrigation projects with the name of On-Farm Water Management were signed this year. Out of which, 38 have been completed and with their completion, over eighty thousand acres of land have been watered, officials said.

“These projects are not only construction, but are from all aspects. Through demonstrations for farmers, new techniques will be taught, irrigation associations will also be built,” said Muhammad Asef Rahimi, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.

Officials of the contracting companies have promised good quality implementation of these projects.

These irrigation canals are located in Kabul, Parwan, Balkh, Logar, Bamyan, Samangan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Herat, wadsam reported.

According to officials at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, this year, 137 small and medium irrigation projects were implemented in the country, preparing 275 acres of land for farming.
