28 killed in Iraq suicide bombing

KABUL: (MEP) – At least 28 people were killed and 40 others wounded Friday night in a suicide bombing at a park in Baghdad’s Qahira neighborhood, Iraqi security sources told Efe.

Most of the victims were women and children.

The bomber entered a crowd of people and detonated an explosive belt.

Security forces surrounded the park out of concern about a possible second attack.

Also Friday, two people were killed and a dozen injured when a man detonated a truck-full of explosives near a police installation in the northern city of Mosul.

The target was the regional headquarters of the Iraqi federal police, a source in the security services told Efe.

Sectarian and political violence in Iraq is at levels last seen in 2006, the peak of the civil war that followed the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of the Middle Eastern nation.
