22 police & 76 Taliban killed in Nangarhar Involvement

KABUL: (MEP) – Nearly 100 people including Afghan security forces and Taliban militants were killed following clashes in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, khaama reported.

According to local authorities in Nangarhar province, around 22 Afghan police and 76 Taliban militants were killed during military operations and clashes with the militants in this province.

Provincial governor spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai confirming the reports said the clashes between Afghan police and Taliban militants took place while Afghan security forces were on their way back from a military operation.

Mr. Abdulzai further added that Afghan security forces had conducted an operation in Shirzad district to free family members of a local tribal elder.

Taliban militants group claimed that nearly 86 Afghan police officers were killed and several equipments including vehicles of the Afghan security forces were destroyed during the clashes.

However, local officials denied the Taliban group claims and called it as baseless.

In the meantime, another security official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed that several Ranger pick-up vehicles of the Afghan national police were destroyed during the clashes.
