KABUL: (MEP) – At least 22 people were killed or injured following an explosion in southern Zabul province of Afghanistan on earlier morning Monday, ghulam sakhi rogh liwanai zabul police chief said.
The officials further added the incident took place in Shahjoi district, killing or injuring at least 21 people including three Afghan Local Police (ALP) officers.
The main target of the explosion was deputy Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander, who was killed in the explosion along with two other ALP officers.
Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Jan Rasouliar confirming the report said the explosion took place around 6:30pm local time, and the ALP commander Mujahid was killed along with his two security guards.
Mr. Rasouliar further added that six Afghan civilians were also killed and 12 others were injured following the explosion.
He said women and children were also among those killed or injured in yesterday’s explosion. Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident.
A spokesman for the Taliban group Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said at least seven people including the ALP commander and his six security guards were killed in explosion.
