2 Shot Dead, 3 Wounded in North Carolina shootout

CaptureKABUL: (Middle East Press) Two people have been killed and three others have been injured during shootings in Northampton County, North Carolina.

The shootings on Saturday night left two men dead and wounded two male officers as well as a woman, Gaston County Police Chief Bill Melton said.

Melton did not say who shot whom, but noted that officers arrived at the scene, which was about 22 miles west of Charlotte, at 9:18 p.m., after they had received a call about “an active shooter” in the area.

“Officers were confronted with a suspect, who was armed, that suspect engaged officers, two officers were shot, they have non-life-threatening injuries, the suspect shooter was shot and killed by officers,” he said.

“Additionally, we also have another individual who was shot and killed at his residence, (it) appears to be by the suspect shooter who engaged our officers,” he added.

“We heard about 10 to 15 rounds shot. It was wild, that’s for sure,” said Nikki Moore, who works in the neighborhood.

Moore said she thinks police shot the man after he fired at them.

An investigation is underway and according to Melton it may be several days before police can finalize the outcome.

Gun production in the United States has more than doubled under US President Barack Obama, a new report has found.

A report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown that over 11,000 people are murdered with a firearm each year in the US, and more than 20,000 others commit suicide using one.
