15 Dead, Over 50 Injured In Heavy Rains In Egypt

MEP: At least fifteen people have lost their lives and more than 50 others sustained injuries following heavy torrential downpours and intense flooding in Egypt, health officials said.

Seven people were killed and 23 others injured after heavy rain hit the town of Ras Gharib in the Red Sea governorate, Al-Ahram quoted Egypt’s official MENA agency as reporting, citing the provincial health department on Friday.

At least six people were killed and 24 others wounded when two buses and three cars overturned in floods on a highway in the eastern province of Sohag, some 500 kilometers south of the capital Cairo.

Two other people were also electrocuted by lightning in Fayed, in the northeastern province of Ismailia.

The roads have been reportedly closed due to electoral lightning.

Heavy rains caused flooding in several towns in Upper Egypt and along the Red Sea coast on Wednesday and Thursday. Impoverished areas with poor infrastructure have been worse hit.
