14 Security Forces Killed, wounded in Baghlan

KABUL (MEP) – At least 14 security forces were killed and wounded in clashes with the Taliban in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province.

Sources told MEP that seven security forces, including local police commander Juma Khan Mobarez, were killed and seven others were injured in a clash with Taliban fighters in the Sorkh Kotal area of Pul-e-Khumri Wednesday night.

The incident took place when the Taliban attacked a base of the city garrison forces, sources added.

Meanwhile, civil activist Habibullah Mansouri and relatives of the victims say commander Mubarez and two of his men have been killed in a landmine explosion.

According to him, the local police commander was targeted by a pre-embedded mine whenhe was moving to support the city garrison forces.

Four of killed are said to be city garrison soldiers.

Local police commander Juma Khan Mobarez had previously survived attacks and ambushes by the Taliban.

The armed Taliban have not commented yet.
