13 Passengers Shot Dead in Kabul-Ghazni Highway

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Unknown Gunmen have killed 13 passengers travelling on a bus towards Kabul-Ghazni Highway on Tuesday, said officials.

Spokesman for the provincial governor, Ataullah Khogyani, said a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire on a bus in Wardak province around 1:00 am local time.

According to Khogyani, there was one woman among the dead passengers.

Mohammad Ali, the deputy governor of neighboring Ghazni province, confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen picked their victims and shot them one by one.

Both officials said the motive behind the deadly attack is still unclear however, an investigation has been launched in relation to the incident.

The attack comes as last month, masked gunmen kidnapped 30 people from a bus in Zabul province. They have still not been recovered.

Nine civilians were also abducted by gunmen from a road in Jaghori District of Ghazni province on March 15. Kidnappers later released eight of them.

Six people were kidnapped on Farah-Herat highway on March 17. Four of them were Afghan National Army soldiers.
