KABUL: (MEP) – At least one insurgent was killed and three others wounded in eastern province of Nangarhar, where the alliance praises Afghan special forces’ activities.
Afghan forces launched a clearance operation in Khogyani district of the province, where one rebels was killed and three others wounded, said the alliance in a statement.
Commandos from 1st Special Operations Kandak were conducting the operation in Chowni village when they received small-arms fire from insurgent fighters. The Commandos immediately returned fire, killing one of the insurgents.
The Commandos also detained three suspected insurgents and discovered a weapons cache of pistols, Afghan National Army uniforms and detailed profiles of ANA soldiers, the statement said.
Brig. Gen. Faizal Ahmed Sherzaid, provincial police chief, expressed his support of the Commando’s operations throughout the province to clear the area of insurgent strongholds stating that these operations allow for the future installment of Afghan Local Police.
The three suspects are in custody of the district’s National Directorate of Security officials.
The Taliban had not still commented on the statement, WNA reported.
