1 Dead, 2 Wounded As Hundreds Protest In Takhar Over Armed Groups
MEP: Hundreds of citizens have poured to the streets in Rastaq district of northeast of Takhar province marching the increasing number of irresponsible armed groups and spreading insecurity in the city.
Samiullah one of the demonstrators told the Middle East News Agency the rally against the armed groups in the district took place to call the government for disarmament of these men.
He said the armed groups attacked the protestors this morning, killed and injured three people.
The armed groups also fired mortars and rockets at the marchers, he added.
Sufidad, another marcher says that all of these groups are equipped by Mullah Peermaqal, one of the district commanders and they use the weapons for causing insecurity in the area.
He added if the government does not pay attention to the matter, they would punish Mullah Peermaqal for the deaths.
Meanwhile Mullah Peermaqal speaking with the Middle East News Agency, denies the charges against him, saying the protests and political circles launched against him are “plots”.
Takhar governor’s spokesman, Sonatullah Timur says the different armed groups in the district occasionally fight each other in which people loses life and get injured.
