Over 140 Schoolgirls And Teachers Poisoned In Herat

schoolgirlsKABUL: (Middle East Press) More than 140 schoolgirls and teachers were poisoned at a school in western Herat province, local officials said on Thursday.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, a spokesman for Herat Regional Hospital said, the incident took place Thursday morning in a local school in Baba Haji area of Jibrael city.

Sherzai added, more than 140 schoolgirls along with their teachers were poisoned and were shifted to the hospital.

According to Sherzai, the health conditions of the schoolgirls and the teachers are stable.

Sherzai did not provide details regarding the motive behind the poisoning but said that blood samples of the students were taken to the ISAF hospital and initiated investigations.

The incident comes as last week over a hundred schoolgirls have been poisoned in the same area of Herat province.
