electionKABUL: (MEP) The next Presidential elections in Afghanistan in 2019 will be one of the cleanest election held in any country, Ghani said on Saturday.

The promise came during Senior Official Meeting, a donor meeting, in Kabul.

We are totally confident that the 2019 Presidential elections will be amongst the cleanest held in any country, Ghani said mentioning the special form established for the reform.

A reasonable election is expected after Afghanistan saw one of the worst and highly disputed presidential election in the world in 2014 over allegations of mass fraud.

After a month of work, Electoral Reform Commission last week released its reform proposal that included also reduction of membership strength in the election and complaints commissions, presence of two U.N. representatives in complaints commission, preparation of voter list and invalidation of existing voter cards. It also recommended that one-third of parliamentary seats should be assigned to political parties.

Referring to the proposal, Ghani said that it will be considered in a special cabinet session tonight and since parliament cannot legally change the electoral law in its final year, the president said it will be done through a legislative order that would come immediately after the consideration of the recommendations.

And while the date of next elections parliamentary, Ghani promised it will be set in the “immediate future”, also that for district council elections.
